An escalator is a moving staircase – a conveyor transport device for carrying people between floors of a building. The device consists of a motor-driven chain of individual, linked steps that move up or down on tracks, allowing the step treads to remain horizontal.

Escalators are used around the world to move pedestrian traffic in places where elevators would be impractical. Principal areas of usage include department stores, shopping malls, airports, transit systems, convention centers, hotels, and public buildings.

The benefits of escalators are many. They have the capacity to move large numbers of people, and they can be placed in the same physical space as one might install a staircase. They have no waiting interval (except during very heavy traffic), they can be used to guide people toward main exits or special exhibits, and they may be weatherproofed for outdoor use.

SEUMAS MCSPORRAN is a very busy man he is 60 years old and he has 13 jobs.
He is a postman a policeman a fireman a taxi driver a school bus driver a boatman an ambulance man an accountant a petrol attentand a barman and an undertaker.Also he and his wife Margaret have a shop and small hotel
Seumes lives and works on the island Gigha şn the west of Scotland.Only 120 people live on Gigha but in summer 150 tourist come by boat every day.
Every weekday Seumas gets up at 6.00 and makes breakfast for hotel the guests.At 8.00he drives the island’S children to school.At 9.00 he collects the post from boat and delivers it to all the houses on the island.He also delivers the beer to island’s only pub.Then he helps his wife,in the shop.
He says Margaret likes being busy,too.We never have holidays and we dont like watching TV.At 22.00 we have a glass of wine and then we go to work.Perhaps our life isn’t very exciting but we like it.
